Pre-Market 25 September 2026: GIFT Nifty Signals Flat Start; Global Cues In Focus
GIFT Nifty signals a flat start for Indian equities, while crude, US yields and global markets remain in focus.

GIFT Nifty points to a flat start for Indian markets today, while crude oil, US bond yields and overseas markets will remain on the radar.

Indian equities head into Friday after a sharp decline in the previous session, with higher crude prices and elevated global bond yields remaining key concerns for markets.

The Nifty 50 ended at 23,063.10, down 383.70 points or 1.64%, while the BSE Sensex settled at 73,580.54, lower by 1,247.71 points or 1.67%.

The selling was broad-based, as most sectoral indices on the NSE ended lower. The Nifty Auto index fell 1.57%, while FMCG, IT, Media and Metal indices also declined.

The sharp move came as Brent crude returned to around $106 a barrel, reversing part of Wednesday's decline. The rise in oil followed limited progress in US-Iran discussions and renewed concerns around Middle East supply.

The rupee also remained under pressure. It opened at 95.84 against the US dollar, touched 95.98, and ended at 95.96, down 23 paise from the previous close, according to provisional data.

On Wall Street, US markets ended mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.31% at 51,349.98, the S&P 500 closed at 7,704.13, down by 0.02%. However the Nasdaq Composite closed in green with a mere 0.01% gain from the previous day’s close.

European markets also closed mostly lower. The FTSE 100 ended at 10,679.99, down 0.24%, while France's CAC 40 settled at 8,081.43, down by 0.52%.

Asian markets were mixed. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed 0.76% higher at 65,513.99, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng ended 0.29% lower at 24,761.13.

At 7:17 am on 25 September, GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,150, up 52.50 points or 0.23%, pointing to a flat start for today’s session.

The Nifty 50 index is entering Friday close to an important support zone.

  • A decisive break below the 23,000 mark could bring the 22,600-22,500 zone into focus.

  • On the upside, 23,200-23,300 may act as an immediate resistance area.

Internationally, developments around the US-China summit will remain in focus after US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping began talks in Washington.

The US 10-year bond yield had climbed to around 5.11%, its highest level since 2007. For Indian traders, the rise in US yields could weigh on global risk appetite, while the rupee, foreign fund flows and domestic bond yields remain in focus.

The Indian market will also continue to assess the fallout from IRDAI's proposed changes to insurance commissions and expense limits. Primary-market activity is another domestic cue to consider.
