Pre-Market 15 October 2026: GIFT Nifty Points To Weak Start As Investors Track Oil Prices, US CPI Data And Q2 Earnings

GIFT Nifty hints at a weaker opening as Brent crude price rose around $106 per barrel, with investors tracking foreign fund outflows, US CPI data, and Q2 earnings from Wipro, Tech Mahindra and Nestlé India.
Indian equities are set to enter Thursday’s session after the benchmarks fell on Wednesday amid elevated crude oil prices and concerns over the US inflation outlook and the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate outlook.
Indian Markets Recap
The Nifty 50 closed at 22,622.70 on Wednesday, down 99.25 points or 0.44%. The BSE Sensex settled at 72,781.89, losing 251.89 points or 0.34%.
The session was mixed across sectors. Nifty Pharma fell 1.30%, while Nifty Auto, Nifty Realty, Nifty Metal, and Nifty Private Bank also declined.
IT and consumer stocks offered some support. Nifty IT gained 1.14%, while Nifty FMCG, Nifty Media, and Nifty PSU Bank also gained.
The rupee, meanwhile, extended its recovery for a fourth consecutive session, touching around ₹94.80 against the US dollar.
Brent was up around 0.30% at $106 a barrel. Crude oil prices rose after fresh attacks linked to the Middle East conflict raised fears over energy infrastructure and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Global Markets Update
US stocks came under pressure on Wednesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.09% to 51,621.48. The S&P 500 lost 1.11% to close at 7,718.94, while the Nasdaq Composite declined 1.88% to 26,692.87.
European markets closed in positive territory on Wednesday. FTSE 100 rose 0.70% to 10,724.86, while CAC 40 gained 0.58% to 7,873.11.
Asian markets closed lower. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.05% to 67,744.29, while South Korea’s KOSPI fell 0.44% to 6,008.81. Semiconductor shares and concerns about competition from Chinese chipmakers have been a source of volatility across global technology stocks.
GIFT Nifty Today
At 7:42 am on 15 October, GIFT Nifty was trading at 22,609.00, down 0.06%, which is below the Nifty 50’s close of 22,622.70, pointing to a potentially weaker start for Indian equities on Thursday.
Nifty 50 Technical View
The Nifty 50 faces immediate resistance in the 22,800–22,850 zone. A decisive move above 22,850 could open the way towards 23,100–23,300. On the downside, immediate support lies in the 22,400–22,300 range. A sustained break below this support zone could intensify selling pressure and prolong the index’s consolidation.
What Investors Will Track On Thursday?
The direction of crude oil prices and any fresh developments affecting energy supplies will remain important for Indian markets. Investors will also assess whether the rupee can hold its recent recovery and how foreign fund flows develop after the latest moves in domestic equities.
Investors will also assess the implications of US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for Federal Reserve rate expectations, as changes in the global interest-rate outlook can influence foreign fund flows into Indian equities.
At home, the Q2 earnings calendar brings stock-specific triggers, with Wipro, Tech Mahindra and Nestlé India scheduled to report results on 15 October. The recent rise in retail inflation and its implications for monetary policy are also relevant, particularly as oil prices remain elevated.
