Pre-Market 14 October 2026: GIFT Nifty Points To A Negative Start As Traders Track Global Markets And Crude Oil

GIFT Nifty hints at a negative opening as Brent crude hovered near $104.55 a barrel. Investors will track the rupee’s movement and updates on inflation today, with IT stocks and the upcoming earnings season also in focus.
Indian equities enter Wednesday after Tuesday’s strong rally. Gains at home came despite lingering concerns over crude oil. Investors will now track global market cues and developments on the inflation front for today's trade.
How Did Indian Markets Perform On Tuesday?
The Sensex advanced 1,109.10 points, or 1.54%, to close at 73,033.78. The Nifty 50 added 358.60 points, or 1.60%, to settle at 22,721.95.
IT stocks led the advance. The Nifty IT index rose more than 5% as investors reacted to HCL Technologies’ quarterly results. The rally extended across most sectors as realty, auto, metal, FMCG and PSU bank shares also ended higher.
The rupee extended its recovery, trading in the mid-₹95 range against the US dollar after the Reserve Bank of India introduced measures to curb dollar demand.
Oil prices remain sensitive to developments in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Brent crude oil price traded at $104.55 per barrel.
Global Markets
Technology shares remained under pressure in global markets as investors assessed competition in the semiconductor industry and a mixed set of corporate earnings. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 51,670.10, down 0.35%. The S&P 500 was down 0.02% at 7,805.45, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.15% to 27,204.38.
European equities were slightly lower. The UK’s FTSE 100 stood at 10,650.33, down 0.06%, while France’s CAC 40 index was at 7,827.63, down 0.07%.
Asia saw steeper declines. South Korea’s KOSPI crashed 5.46% to 6,035.35, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1.82% to 67,777.52. The weakness in semiconductor shares was a major factor in the regional sell-off, adding to concerns about the technology sector’s outlook.
GIFT Nifty Cues
At 7:29 am on 14 October, GIFT Nifty was trading at 22,763.50, down 0.87%. The numbers point to a negative start for Indian equities on Wednesday.
Nifty 50 Technical View
The Nifty 50’s recovery above 22,700 offers some near-term relief after the recent correction. The immediate resistance is placed at 22,900, which coincides with the 20-day exponential moving average. Beyond that, the 23,000–23,200 zone is the next hurdle.
On the downside, the 22,300–22,500 range is expected to provide immediate support.
What Could Shape Wednesday’s Trade?
Investors will weigh the strength of Tuesday’s IT-led recovery against pressure on global semiconductor stocks. The next set of company earnings may also influence sector-specific moves as the results season progresses.
At home, the September retail inflation rate of 5.54% remains a concern for the interest-rate outlook. The rupee’s response to the RBI’s recent measures, foreign fund activity and the direction of crude oil prices will add to the domestic cues.
