GIFT Nifty hints at a flat start as investors track crude oil, global markets and key Q2 earnings.

GIFT Nifty points to a largely flat start today. Investors will track crude oil prices, US midterm election developments and a fresh round of Q2 earnings on Wednesday.

Indian equities head into Wednesday after a strong rally lifted the benchmark indices to their highest levels in nearly two months. Easing crude oil prices and renewed foreign investor buying supported the latest gains, while GIFT Nifty hints at a flat-to-cautious start today.

The Sensex jumped 1,225.07 points, or 1.62%, to close at 76,917.85 on Tuesday. The Nifty 50 gained 370.05 points, or 1.58%, to settle at 23,810.85.

Buying was visible across several sectors, with FMCG, realty and private banking stocks among the stronger performers. The Nifty Bank advanced 537.85 points to 55,540.05, while broader market participation also improved.

A fall in crude oil prices and renewed foreign investor interest supported sentiment amid the possibility of a diplomatic settlement between Washington and Tehran. Brent fell to around $102.76 a barrel on Tuesday, extending the previous session's sharp decline.

Foreign institutional investors bought equities worth ₹6,836.81 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. The rupee also strengthened, trading around 94.74 against the US dollar.

US equities moved in different directions on Tuesday as investors tracked the country's midterm elections and developments in the Middle East. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 256.52 points, or 0.49%, at 51,727.46. The S&P 500 gained 0.29% to 7,563.40, while the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.62% at 25,319.75.

European markets ended lower on Tuesday. The UK's FTSE 100 fell 1.14%, while France's CAC 40 declined 0.34%.

Asian markets also showed weakness. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.33% in Monday's session, as the Japanese cash market was closed on Tuesday for Culture Day. South Korea's KOSPI dropped 3.59% on Tuesday.

At 7:49 am on 4 November, GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,705, down 55 points, or 0.23%, indicating a flat opening for domestic equities on Wednesday.

The Nifty 50 has reclaimed the 23,800 level after a strong four-session advance. The immediate support zone is placed at 23,600–23,500.

A sustained move above the recent recovery levels could bring the psychological 24,000 mark into focus, followed by the 24,200–24,400 resistance band.

Wednesday brings another busy set of September-quarter results. Apollo Hospitals, BSE, Cummins India, Dabur India, Lenskart Solutions, Zydus Lifesciences, NHPC, Exide Industries and Aurobindo Pharma are among the companies scheduled to announce their numbers.

Investors will follow the US election results and any further developments in the US-Iran negotiations. Changes in crude oil prices and foreign fund flows will also matter for domestic sentiment.
