The benchmark indices recovered from early losses to end the session largely unchanged, as gains in information technology stocks offset weakness across metal and FMCG counters. Broader markets also ended on a muted note.
Stock-specific action remained in focus on Monday as buying in information technology stocks helped offset weakness in metal and FMCG counters. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra emerged as the biggest gainers on the Nifty 50, while Grasim Industries, Tata Steel and Nestlé India ended among the top losers.
The benchmark indices finished the session little changed after recovering from early losses, with gains in frontline IT and select auto stocks balancing selling pressure in metals and consumer names.
Top Nifty 50 Gainers
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) | +5.45% |
HCL Technologies | +4.88% |
Tech Mahindra | +3.42% |
Infosys | +3.21% |
Bajaj Auto | +2.45% |
TCS topped the Nifty 50 gainers after rallying more than 5% following its June-quarter earnings announcement. The gains spilled over to the broader IT pack, with HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra and Infosys extending the sector's rally.
Buying was not limited to technology stocks. Bajaj Auto also finished among the day's top gainers, reflecting continued interest in select automobile counters.
Top Nifty 50 Losers
Grasim Industries | -2.58% |
Tata Steel | -2.18% |
Nestlé India | -1.83% |
Eternal | -1.61% |
UltraTech Cement | -1.45% |
Profit booking was visible across select metal, cement and FMCG stocks. Grasim Industries led the declines, while Tata Steel and Nestlé India also ended lower during the session.
Eternal and UltraTech Cement were among the other notable laggards as investors pared positions in a few heavyweight names despite strength in technology stocks.
