Closing Bell, 14 August 2026: Benchmarks End In The Red
Sensex and Nifty 50 ended lower in today’s trading session amid global worries.

The Sensex and Nifty 50 slumped in today’s trade and closed in the red. At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex stood at 78,009.25, down 0.09%. Nifty 50 stood at 24,366, down 0.12%.

Broader markets also ended the day in the negative. The Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 0.53% lower, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index ended 0.69% lower. Sector-wise, the Nifty Metal underperformed and closed 0.71% lower. The Nifty Consumer Durables, however, closed 0.76% higher.

Stocks of the following companies were the top five gainers and losers on the Nifty 50 index today:

Gold and silver traded mixed on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). At 15:38, MCX gold prices for October futures stood at ₹1,53,550 per 10 grams, up 0.05%. MCX silver prices for September futures during the same time stood at ₹2,35,201 per kg, down 0.10%.

Some of the other major headlines of the day are as follows:

  • As per sources, Tata Trusts is likely to find the successor to N Chandrasekaran by the end of this year. The search committee is expected to take not more than one and a half to two months to complete the exercise once formally constituted.

  • ICICI Bank Ltd has raised about $1.45 billion through a syndicated offshore loan. In the process, it has joined a growing number of local banks that are looking to tap overseas debt markets.

  • Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold nearly ₹99,101 crore from 10 Indian companies in the June quarter, with half of the selling concentrated on Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank.

Crude oil prices steadied to some extent even though the US threatened to keep a naval blockade of Iran in place for an indefinite period. At around 15:38, Brent crude oil futures for October 2026 stood at $87.23 per barrel. At the same time, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures for September 2026 stood at $81.83 per barrel.

Markets are likely to remain volatile in the coming days. Global developments and movements in crude oil prices are likely to remain key factors in the upcoming trading sessions.
