Markets ended mixed with Sensex making marginal gains and Nifty 50 witnessing slight decline.

The Sensex and Nifty 50 traded in a small range in today’s trade and closed mixed. At the closing bell, the:

  • BSE Sensex stood at 78,079.96, up 0.15%

  • Nifty 50 stood at 24,395.85, down 0.16%

Broader markets ended today’s trading session on a positive note. The Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 0.15% higher, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index ended 0.27% higher. Sector-wise, the Nifty Cement declined to close 0.93% lower. On the other hand, the Nifty FMCG and Nifty Media outperformed to close 0.84% and 0.37% higher, respectively.

The following stocks emerged as the top five gainers and losers on the Nifty 50 index today:

Gold and silver looked lacklustre on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). At 15:38, MCX gold prices for October futures stood at ₹1,54,151 per 10 grams, down 0.47%. MCX silver prices for September futures during the same time stood at ₹2,35,398 per kg, down 1.02%.

Some of the other major headlines of the day are as follows:

  • Larsen & Toubro (L&T) bagged a mega order to build India's largest single-cluster artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, which will deploy 10,000 NVIDIA B300 graphics processing units (GPUs) for US-based AI cloud company Together AI.

  • Aggregate revenues of 838 listed companies rose 22% year-on-year (YoY) in the June quarter, according to ICRA.

  • India's gem and jewellery exports climbed 0.38% YoY to touch $2.35 billion in July from $2.34 billion a year earlier.

Crude oil prices cooled to some extent after several major forecasters lowered their projections for global oil demand in 2026. At 15:39, Brent crude oil futures for October 2026 stood at $87.74 per barrel. At the same time, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures for September 2026 stood at $82.15 per barrel.

With the Sensex and Nifty 50 ending on a mixed note after a range-bound session, investors are likely to track global cues, crude oil prices and stock-specific developments in the next trading session. Continued strength in select sectors and positive corporate developments could lend support to the benchmarks in the upcoming trading sessions.
