Sensex and Nifty 50 ended marginally higher as US-Iran uncertainty kept investors cautious.

Sensex and Nifty 50 closed marginally higher after a narrow-range session. Investors seemed cautious amid uncertainty over US-Iran talks and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Benchmarks, the Sensex and Nifty 50, moved in a narrow range in today’s trading session. However, they managed to close on a positive note. Uncertainty surrounding the US-Iran peace deal and the subsequent reopening of the vital Strait of Hormuz made investors cautious. At the closing bell, the:

  • BSE Sensex stood at 78,542.44, up 0.06%

  • Nifty 50 stood at 24,583.80, up 0.05%

Broader markets ended the day mixed. The Nifty Midcap 100 index ended 0.62% higher. On the other hand, the Nifty Smallcap 100 index ended 0.27% lower.

Crude oil prices inched up with uncertainty prevailing over the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. At 15:32, Brent oil futures for October 2026 stood at $84.46 per barrel. During the same time, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures for September 2026 stood at $78.78 per barrel.

Some of the other major headlines of the day are as follows:

  • Foreign portfolio investors invested ₹3,358 in India's information technology (IT) stocks in July amid signs of renewed appetite.

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd revives the production of Su-30MKI fighter jets at its Nashik facility and plans to deliver 12 new aircraft by 2029.

  • ACME Solar plans to invest ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 crore to expand its renewable energy business. The company aims to focus on battery energy storage.

Gold and silver traded higher on the Multi-Exchange Commodity (MCX). At 15:37, gold October futures on the MCX stood at ₹1,52,260 per 10 grams, up 0.29%. September silver futures stood at ₹2,33,925 per kg, up 1.06%, at the same time.

The near-term market outlook is likely to remain closely tied to developments surrounding the US and Iran. Concrete clarity on the issue could ease concerns around crude oil supply and provide direction to benchmarks.
