NSE IPO: Narayana Murthy, Azim Premji And Others Hold ₹29,400 Crore Stake

NSE's ₹22,561 crore IPO has put the holdings of several long-term investors at nearly ₹29,400 crore at the upper price band. These include Premji Invest, Catamaran and Radhakishan Damani, among others.
The National Stock Exchange's (NSE’s) ₹22,561 crore initial public offering (IPO) has put several of its long-standing shareholders in focus ahead of its scheduled listing on 24 September. At the upper end of the IPO price band of ₹1,785 per share, the holdings covered in the analysis are worth around ₹29,400 crore.
The NSE IPO price values the exchange at about ₹4.42 lakh crore at the upper band. The issue is entirely an offer for sale of 12.64 crore shares, meaning NSE itself will not receive proceeds from the IPO.
Which Investors Hold The Largest NSE Stakes?
Wipro’s Azim Premji’s Premji Invest's PI Opportunities Fund I is the largest private investment holder among those covered. It owns 5.82 crore NSE shares, valued at about ₹10,231.6 crore at ₹1,785 per share. The fund is not selling shares in the IPO.
Radhakishan Damani, Chairman of DMart, owns 3.9 crore NSE shares, worth about ₹6,856 crore at the IPO price, and is retaining the entire stake. 360 ONE holds around 4 crore shares through various investment vehicles, giving its holdings a combined value of approximately ₹7,139.3 crore.
Tiger Global owns 56 lakh shares, valued at around ₹999.6 crore at the IPO price. Catamaran, the investment firm associated with Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy, owns 38.5 lakh shares worth about ₹687 crore.
Together, these four holdings account for around ₹25,913 crore of the nearly ₹29,400 crore aggregate.
Which Other Prominent Investors Hold NSE Shares?
The shareholder list also includes Sunil Kant Munjal of Hero Enterprise, who owns 1.02 crore shares valued at around ₹1,821.2 crore at the IPO price. Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan holds 94.29 lakh shares worth roughly ₹1,683 crore.
Other individual investors named in the analysis include Siddharth Balachandran, Vanaja Sundar Iyer, Siddharth Iyer, Lata Bhanshali, Bharat Taparia, Ignatius Navil Noronha, Dolly Khanna, Raamdeo Agrawal and Motilal Oswal.
Which NSE Shareholders Are Selling In The IPO?
Not all large shareholders are retaining their entire holdings in the NSE IPO. Aranda Investments, owned by Singapore's Temasek Holdings, held 11.25 crore shares before the IPO and is selling about 1.12 crore shares. It will retain roughly 10.12 crore shares, worth about ₹18,064 crore at the IPO price.
Mahagony will retain around 8.93 crore shares worth roughly ₹15,940 crore after selling part of its holding. Crown Capital will retain about 4.55 crore shares valued at approximately ₹8,122 crore.
TA Asia Pacific Acquisitions will retain around 3.23 crore shares worth about ₹5,766 crore, while MS Strategic, associated with Morgan Stanley, will retain approximately 1.88 crore shares after selling 1.1 crore shares.
These retained stakes are not included in the ₹29,400 crore aggregate.
