JIO Platforms IPO Shareholders Quota: Who Is Eligible To Apply Under Shareholder Quota

Jio Platforms’ initial public offering (IPO) opens today, with ₹2,500 crore reserved for eligible Reliance Industries shareholders and ₹500 crore for qualifying employees. Investors can apply under different categories depending on their eligibility and bid amount. The shareholder category has a maximum bid limit of ₹2 lakh, but allotment is not guaranteed.
Jio Platforms’ initial public offering opens for subscription on October 21, 2026, giving retail investors, high-net-worth individuals, eligible Reliance Industries (RIL) shareholders and employees an opportunity to participate in the issue.
The company’s final Red Herring Prospectus (RHP) outlines the terms for reserved categories alongside the standard retail and non-institutional investor (NII) segments. Eligible RIL shareholders can submit a separate application under the shareholder quota and another under an eligible general category, subject to the offer-document rules.
Jio IPO Shareholder Quota Eligibility: Key Details
Particulars | Details |
|---|---|
Shareholder reservation | ₹2,500 crore |
Employee reservation | ₹500 crore |
Maximum shareholder bid | ₹2 lakh |
Maximum employee bid | ₹5 lakh |
Eligibility cut-off date | 14 October 2026 |
Who Qualifies For The Reserved Categories?
The Jio IPO shareholder quota is open to eligible public shareholders of RIL who held its equity shares in dematerialised (demat) form on the specified cut-off date. Individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) can apply, subject to the RHP’s conditions.
Investors who purchased RIL shares after October 14 cannot qualify for this issue through subsequent purchases. Holdings in other Reliance Group companies do not meet the shareholder eligibility requirement.
No minimum shareholding is specified in the available details, meaning one RIL share may suffice if all other conditions are satisfied.
The employee reservation applies to eligible employees of RIL, Jio Platforms and Jio Platforms subsidiaries. Employment with another Reliance Group company does not automatically confer eligibility.
Bid Limits Across Investor Categories
The maximum application amount depends on the category selected.
Investor category | Bid amount |
|---|---|
Retail individual investor | Up to ₹2 lakh |
Small high-net-worth individual (S-HNI) | Above ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh |
Big high-net-worth individual (B-HNI) | Above ₹10 lakh |
RIL shareholder | Up to ₹2 lakh |
Eligible employee | Up to ₹5 lakh |
Investors applying through the general category must choose either the retail or NII segment; they cannot submit applications in both. Eligible RIL shareholders may apply separately under the reserved shareholder segment and one eligible general category, in accordance with the RHP.
How Allotment Works
The reserved portions provide separate pools of shares but do not guarantee allotment. If applications exceed the available shares, allocation follows the prescribed basis of allotment. Any unsubscribed shares may be redistributed according to the offer documents.
Eligibility determines access to a category, while the number of shares allotted depends on demand and the applicable allocation process. Post-listing returns remain uncertain.
