Jio IPO Puts Revenue Growth In Focus
Jio's upcoming IPO draws attention to a potential 12%–15% mobile tariff hike as analysts assess revenue growth prospects.

Jio's upcoming IPO puts its revenue plans in focus. Analysts expect a tariff hike of 12% to 15%, while Akash Ambani sees scope to grow through additional services.

Reliance Jio could raise mobile tariffs by 12% to 15% over the next three to four months, according to analysts. The expected increase comes as Jio Platforms prepares for its initial public offering (IPO), which opens on 21 October 2026.

Jio is preparing to go public, and investors will want to see how it plans to grow its business. Analysts see a tariff hike as one way to bring in more money from existing users.

One number is worth watching here. Jio's Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) shows how much the company earns per subscriber, on average, each month. Jio's ARPU rose to ₹215.60 in Q1 FY27 from ₹208.80 in the same quarter last year. Its subscriber base reached 533.3 million. Monthly data consumption per user also increased to 43.7 GB from 37 GB a year earlier.

Even a small increase in what each user pays can, therefore, make a significant difference to its earnings. However, the tariff hike is only a forecast by analysts. There is no official confirmation yet.

The Jio IPO puts its revenue growth and profitability in focus. Higher mobile tariffs could help, but they are not the only option.

Akash Ambani has indicated that Jio has room to raise prices. However, he said the company would prefer to offer more services and create additional value for customers.

Jio sees opportunities in home broadband, enterprise solutions and digital services. It also plans to expand its home broadband reach to more households. These services could help the company earn more from its existing customer base without increasing the tariffs.

Jio will have to decide which approach works best for its business.

A higher tariff would mean a bigger recharge bill for Jio users. They may have to pay more for the same benefits. A 12% increase, for instance, would take a ₹300 recharge to ₹336. The final price will depend on which plans Jio chooses to revise.

Not everyone may be willing to pay more. Some users could move to cheaper plans. Others may switch to another network altogether. If that happens, Jio could lose customers despite charging more for its plans. So, a price hike by itself does not mean profits or the share price will rise.

Jio's subscriber numbers will be worth tracking after the IPO. Its broadband and digital services are worth watching too. Growth in these areas could help the company earn more without depending only on mobile recharge prices.

For now, the expected 12% to 15% tariff increase remains an analyst forecast. Jio has indicated that it has room to raise prices, but it also wants to earn more by offering additional services. Its approach to revenue growth will be worth watching as the company enters the stock market.
