Nvidia Weighs Reflection AI Acquisition Or Fresh Investment As Competition For Lower-Cost AI Models Intensifies
Nvidia weighs a Reflection AI acquisition or fresh investment as competition for cheaper AI models intensifies

Nvidia may invest more money into Reflection AI or buy the start-up outright. The move comes as tech companies compete to develop cheaper and more capable AI models.

Nvidia is exploring a possible deal with US-based AI start-up Reflection AI. The talks reportedly involve buying the company or putting more money into the business. The talks remain at an early stage. Several options are under consideration, and an agreement has not yet been finalised. The discussions could also collapse without a deal.

Nvidia may explore an arrangement known as an ‘acqui-hire’. Under this structure, it could recruit Reflection AI’s employees and obtain licences for its technology instead of acquiring the entire business. This approach could help avoid some of the regulatory scrutiny associated with a full takeover.

Other possibilities include increasing Nvidia’s existing equity investment or supplying Reflection AI with additional chips and computing resources. Nvidia has already invested $800 million in the start-up. Reflection AI was valued at $25 billion in its March 2026 funding round.

Founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, Reflection AI develops artificial intelligence models and tools for software development. Its technology is designed to compete in coding and AI agent applications.

On 5 October 2026, the company introduced Beam, its first major open-weight AI model. The model is aimed at businesses and developers. Reflection AI says it can compete with leading Chinese models while reducing operating costs.

The potential deal also aligns with US efforts to strengthen domestic AI capabilities. The Trump administration hopes Reflection AI can challenge lower-cost Chinese alternatives, including DeepSeek. Nvidia and Reflection AI had not publicly confirmed an agreement when the report was published.
