Asian Markets To See Holiday-Shortened Week

Asian stock markets will observe holidays next week, with China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and India closing on different days. Indian equities ended higher on Friday despite global market concerns.
Several major Asian stock markets will observe holidays during the week from 28 September to 2 October 2026. The closures will take place on different days across the region.
For Indian investors, the holiday schedule is important because closures in major Asian markets can reduce regional trading activity and affect global market cues.
Taiwan, China And Hong Kong Market Holidays
The Taiwan Stock Exchange will remain closed on Monday, 28 September, for Teachers’ Day. Trading is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, 29 September.
China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange and Shenzhen Stock Exchange will be shut on Thursday, 1 October, and Friday, 2 October, for National Day. Shanghai’s National Day holiday will continue until 7 October, with trading scheduled to resume on 8 October. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange will also remain closed on Thursday, 1 October, for National Day. Trading in Hong Kong is scheduled to resume on Friday, 2 October.
Indian Stock Market Holiday
India’s NSE and BSE will remain closed on Friday, 2 October, on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. The holiday falls on a Friday, creating a three-day break when combined with the weekend.
Investors will therefore need to track developments in overseas markets while domestic equities remain shut. The concentration of holidays across several Asian markets could also lead to lower trading participation during parts of the week.
Indian Markets End Higher
Indian equities closed higher in the final trading session of the week. Selective buying in stocks that had declined previously supported the recovery.
The Nifty 50 rose 77.40 points, or 0.34%, to finish at 23,140.50. The BSE Sensex gained 315.20 points, or 0.43%, to close at 73,895.74. Despite Friday’s recovery, investors remained cautious. Elevated crude oil prices, US Treasury yields above 5% and continued foreign investor selling remained key concerns.
Asian markets also delivered a mixed performance. Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 1.22%, while Singapore’s Straits Times Index advanced 0.49%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 1.21%.
